Use of seaweed biostimulant to enhance sward quality
This project will investigate enhancing sward quality and soil health using a Car-y-Môr seaweed biostimulant. The biostimulant will be injected into the soil with a sward lifter, which also helps reduce soil compaction. Trials will take place in two fields, each divided into three sections: one receiving only the seaweed biostimulant, another receiving the biostimulant plus liquid gypsum, and a control plot with no treatment. All treated areas will also be aerated. The project aims to assess the bio stimulant’s impact on sward and grazing quality, as well as its effects on soil compaction and biology.
The project will also contribute to the Sustainable Land Management outcomes including:
- Maximise carbon storage
- Mitigate flood & drought risk
- Resilient ecosystems
- Resource efficient
