Osian Williams

Llangeitho, Ceredigion

Having grown up in a council house in Pwllheli, Osian’s passion for dairy farming began from the age of 12, when he started helping out at neighbouring Cefnamlwch Farm, where he had to stand on a bucket to reach the milk clusters. Despite having no background in agriculture, he went on to study Agriculture at Coleg Glynllifon before returning to Cefnamlwch for a full-time position.

After spending two years in New Zealand, upon returning to Wales, he was offered a joint venture opportunity by Matthew Jackson. He left the Lleyn Peninsula and moved to Ceredigion to set up a new dairy conversion with Matthew Jackson and John Furnival at Dolau Aeron, Tregaron where he secured his place in the equity partnership.

Dolau Aeron milks a herd of 450 spring calving Jersey cross cows. Osian plays a key role in managing the farm, staff, and the herd. He utilises Agrinet software to plan grazing schedules and continuously seeks to maximise milk production from grass while also keeping a close eye on animal health and welfare, due to the challenging terrain.

Osian's long-term goal is to own his own farm beyond the Joint Venture and his dream is to be in a position to give other young people an opportunity to enter agriculture, just as he did.

Osian is hoping to gain a lot from his fellow applicants of the Agri Academy and is particularly interested in making new connections and learning about what drives others. He is also hoping to learn more about the supply chain.
