Join Farming Connect to find out more about an agroforestry project at Henfaes Research Centre, Bangor, where lambs have been grazing forage crops grown among trees. The project aims to inform farmers about possible ways to diversify their farming practices and sustainably increase on-farm productivity and profitability, whilst maintaining the environment and landscape.

Trees have been managed to allow enough sunlight to produce trial plots of rape, stubble turnips and kale to be grown within the tree alleys. The crops have been grazed by lambs from the Bangor University farm and their performance in terms of growth rates and daily liveweight gains has been recorded. The growth and performance of the crops has also been recorded, both under and outside the tree canopy.

The open event will include an opportunity to view the trial area, review the data and results that have been gathered so far and discuss the project and agroforestry systems with speakers including a forage crop expert and university and farm staff.
