Veterinary surgeon, Joseph Angell of Wern Vets discussing results from an EIP Wales project investigating trace element requirements in sheep. Twelve farmers have been looking into improving their nutritional planning in breeding ewes, investigating the individual flock needs for trace elements whilst trying to balance this against other likely causes of poor performance.
In addition to the main findings of the project, Joseph also discusses;
- The technique of taking live liver biopsies from ewes
- The importance of body condition scoring sheep to help with nutritional management
- Trace element supplementation: what’s needed and when
