Key areas you wish to focus on as a demonstration farmer?

Performance recording of sheep: to increase the efficiency of our business by using technology to determine which animals perform the best in our system and to make decisions based on that data.

To evaluate options for different beef systems: we currently finish all our cattle but we want to evaluate the costs of other systems and consider if any of these might provide a better financial return.

To consider ways of tightening up the calving and lambing periods: the herd currently calves over 12 weeks but we would like to reduce this and also shorten our lambing period.

To consider the value of TMR in the beef and sheep system: a priority going forward must be to cut our feed costs by reducing the amount of purchased feed; TMR could help us to achieve this.

“We only started farming at Moelogan 12 months ago and are open to ideas on how we can best shape the business to make it sustainable for the future. We are looking forward to working with experts in our role as a Farming Connect Demonstration Site, to having fresh pairs of eyes reviewing the things that we see every day, and to learning from that.’’
