Water is essential to agriculture production. In addition water is managed to supplement production with its uses comprising irrigation, spraying, drinking for livestock, and washing (vegetables, livestock buildings). In the UK water for agriculture is obtained either directly from rain, rivers, boreholes and storage ponds or from the supply of mains waters or a combination of these. The effect of extreme weather phenomena associated with climate change are a threat to availability of water for agriculture from all sources.
