By going out of its way to invest in the future of its staff, North Wales restaurant chain Dylan’s has created a skilled and motivated workforce – and done much to challenge the view that it’s tough to build a career in the hospitality industry.

Dylan’s management team has worked hard to instil a belief in its staff that a job in hospitality is
equal to any other kind of job and offers exciting long-term prospects.
Key to this has been the creation of a People Development Team, tasked with providing each of Dylan’s 120 plus workers with a tailored progression programme – and encouraging everyone to dream big and pursue their goals.

Another feature of life at Dylan’s is the level of support on offer. Regular one-to-one meetings are scheduled, allowing managers to check if staff are satisfied and find out what can be done to aid their development. And as part of this, many individuals get financial support to go to college or attend specialist training – something that everybody benefits from as it means people come back with new skills that they are able to pass on to other members of the team.

“Last year we were awarded a gold award by Investors in People. It really endorsed what we’re doing in terms of staff development and has made us excited about the future.”
David Evans Director, Dylan’s
