Focus Site Project: Costs of Practical Woodland Management and Adding Value to the Woodland Resource on the Farm
Project aims:
- To consider funding opportunities to manage the 160 acres of predominantly conifer woodland on the holding and develop a clear woodland management plan that will provide guidance for intervention over the next 10 years.
- Investigate suitably sized machinery to implement appropriate management regimes within the woodland, identifying sensitive extraction techniques and removal of timber from the woodland, specifically in designated areas such as the Planted Ancient Woodland Site.
- Evaluate the viability of restoring the on-site sawmill and drying kiln to produce a range of products that will add value to the timber harvest and create an additional income stream for the farm business.
