Focus Site project: Can wholecrop silage improve the quality of winter feed rations and reduce feed costs?
Project aims:
- Improve feed self-sufficiency for the farm’s suckler herd.
- Reduce feed costs by buying in less concentrates.
- Compare the economics of growing an under sown spring barley wholecrop with ryegrass compared to conventional first cut silage from permanent pasture.
- Compare the feed value of the wholecrop silage against first cut grass silage.
