Focus Site Project: Selective Dry Cow Therapy – Reducing the use of
Antibiotics at drying off
Project aims:
- investigate the effects of implementing a selective dry cow therapy on an AYR calving high yielding dairy herd.
- Observation of the short and medium term effect of implementing an SDCT protocol.
- The effect on mastitis levels over a period of a year to trial the benefits of using selective antibiotic use and to monitor any disadvantages.
- To help farms to make a comprehensive decision on SDCT for their own farms especially those who are on a supermarket or specific milk contact.
