Inspire a Welsh generation with apprenticeships

Urdd Gobaith Cymru

Urdd Gobaith Cymru is one of Wales’ leading children’s and youth organisations, providing a range of opportunities through clubs, schools and community groups.

The organisation, which promotes the use of the Welsh language, had not considered an Apprenticeship Programme until just over a year ago.

Following the introduction of a programme with training provider Babcock, the Urdd has grown and developed its range of activities in more community areas.

“We reviewed and implemented some changes within our structure and this has enabled us to develop an Apprenticeship Programme and employ apprentices within the organisation,” said Gary Lewis, Sports Director.

“Apprenticeships have enabled the Urdd to improve and grow our provision of community services throughout Wales to reach more children and young people.”

The organisation has taken on 10 apprentices over the past year, which has helped to address youth unemployment. Some of the apprentices are still in school and this allows them the opportunity of employment for when they leave school.

Embedding apprenticeships into the organisation has allowed the Urdd to increase its ambitions in reaching out to more communities while ensuring it has a fully trained and ambitious workforce.
