With Farming Connect’s skills application window open now until 5pm Friday, 28 June, it might be a good time to consider developing your skills as all those working in the farming and forestry industries prepare for the uncertain trading conditions of the future.

Kevin Thomas, Director for Lantra Wales, which alongside Menter a Busnes, delivers Farming Connect on behalf of Welsh Government and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development, said that the two-month long skills application window reflects the changing needs of both businesses and individuals.

“We have introduced this extended application window from May 2019 onwards, in recognition of the limited time many eligible farm and forestry businesses registered with Farming Connect may have as they face so many other pressures and challenges.

“We are giving them more time to go through the necessary processes to ensure they get the most out of the hugely comprehensive range of both fully funded and subsidised accredited training now available,” said Mr. Thomas.

Farming Connect offers eligible businesses more than 60 different accredited courses which are delivered by a network of approved training providers. They include business improvement and technical training, subsidised by up to 80%. Machinery and equipment-related training is subsidised up to 40%.

Courses available range from financial recording and VAT returns to marketing your business and from foot trimming, managing slurry and controlling moles to handling or driving machinery safely. There are also a number of fully funded e-learning training options available.

“Every training course we provide is designed to save you time and money – our aim is to help you work more efficiently, more profitably and safely,” says Mr. Thomas, who added that additional accredited training courses will be added to the programme as the industry and its requirements evolve.

Registered businesses and individuals wanting to apply for subsidised accredited training during the forthcoming application window will need to complete an online Personal Development Plan (PDP) before submitting an application for funding.

Anyone wishing to register for the first time to apply for the subsidised accredited training courses will need to register with Farming Connect by 5pm Monday 24 June.
