Briefing Event on Innovate UK Calls encompassing: Satellite Data in Food; Optimising Sugar, Salt, Fat and Fibre in Food; Agri Tech Catalyst.

Those who may benefit from the event are professionals active in or around Food, Biotechnology ICT, Satellite Data and Agricultural Technology.

Additionally, businesses that may not be in these sectors who may consider diversifying into these areas would be welcome.

Although the event is in Cardiff, companies and academics from elsewhere in UK are welcome.

Innovate UK will be running three competitions in this technology space:-

  • Agri-Tech Catalyst (total Budget £75 million): The Agri-Tech Catalyst has been set up by Innovate UK and the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council and the Department for International Development. Through a series of rounds the Catalyst, will support the vision of the Government's UK strategy for agricultural technologies to make the UK a world leader in agricultural technology, innovation and sustainability. Also to facilitate the transfer of relevant technology and new products to developing countries.
  • Optimising food composition: fat, sugar, salt and fibre: Innovate UK is to invest up to £10 million in collaborative R&D projects aimed either at reducing levels of salt, sugar or fat in food, or at increasing dietary fibre, or any combination of these. The competition is designed to encourage innovation right across the food chain, from the development of raw ingredients to rethinking food formulation, manufacturing and the composition of the final product, ensuring the calorific content and nutritional balance is maintained or enhanced.
  • Satellites to Improve Agri-Food Systems: Innovate UK and NERC are to invest up to £3.75 million in collaborative R&D projects and technical feasibility studies to stimulate innovation to improve the productivity of Agri-Food systems using satellite technology while simultaneously addressing the environmental impacts of increased land use.
