Sunday 27th February Wales took over the UK Pavilion at Dubai Expo 2020. Welsh Government’s partnership with the Department for International Trade (DIT) and the UK Pavilion showcased Wales as a globally responsible nation doing good things – at home and around the world.

Bringing the very best of Welsh cheeses to the Pavilion gave an opportunity for visitors to sample a range of Wales’s finest products.  Wales at Expo 2020 Pavilion saw a spectacular musical performances.  Representing Wales’ finest musical theatre voices, Welsh of the West End, performed across 2 days outside the UK Pavilion.

The crowds stood in awe as Welsh of the West End brought Wales to life and performed a medley of Welsh songs, musical theatre favourites, and performed the Welsh national anthem.

Welsh of the West End could also be heard across the wider Expo site, performing flash mobs of the national anthem to lucky unexpected audiences.

We were delighted to welcome members of Welsh National Opera's Programmes and Engagement Team to Dubai to deliver outreach workshops to school-children in the UAE during the two day takeover at the UK Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai in celebration of St David's Day.   Groups of school children in Dubai joined us at the UK Pavilion to experience the award-winning work of the team. The workshops delivered were designed to spark the imagination of children and demonstrate to future generations that opera is a rewarding, relevant and universal art form.

Our food and drink showcase and daytime entertainment was followed by a sensational BBQ dinner, hosted by Welsh Government's Minister for Economy, Vaughan Gething MS, who was introduced to our guests by HM Ambassador to the UAE, Patrick Moody.

Guests were then treated to an outstanding menu curated and cooked for by Chef Chris Roberts. Flamebaster and Wales’ lambassador, Chris is known for cooking outdoors on open fires, showcasing meat and brining out flavours to the highest standard. As our guests took their seats, Chris cooked up a storm to barbecue Lobster Pot lobster tails, served with a Cajun and Garlic Butter, and of course our famous succulent Welsh lamb – cooked and flavoured 6 different ways!
