Food Safety
Our reputation is in our hands
Food is clearly central to our lives, and the reputation of Welsh food and drink goes hand in hand with improving food safety and standards to ensure consumer confidence in our products and services.
We must all play our part in ensuring the Welsh food chain delivers high quality, safe and sustainable food and drink.
To safeguard the integrity of the supply chain, the EU Food Information for Consumers Regulation (FIC) will improve traceability while adopting appropriate nationally recognised accreditation also helps achieve a food safety culture and consumer trust.
Animal health and welfare also impacts on food quality and we aim to continue to improve on the high standards we have come to expect in Wales.
Taking a lead
As the Welsh Government, we’re at the forefront in ensuring food safety.
Our Food and Drink Action Plan recognises that assured provenance is key to the industry's success, and our Food Division, working closely with the Department of Health and Social Security and the Food Standards Agency in Wales, which leads on food and feed safety, food hygiene, labelling and compositional standards, aims to ensure that consumers experience the best of Welsh food and drink in the knowledge that it is produced according to strict safety controls.
